With a letter, the relatives of the Prosecutor’s Office officials, Bethy Magé, Gerson Rivera and the civilian María Yeni Ruiz, kidnapped in Cauca by the Central General Staff of the FARC, asked for their release.

The kidnapping took place on April 19, when the victims, due to a blockade on the Pan-American Highway, decided to take an alternate route in the rural sector of the municipality of Santander de Quilichao and were intercepted by armed men and taken to an unknown location.

In the communication addressed to President Gustavo Petro, the High Commissioner for Peace, Otty Patiño and the column Dagoberto Ramos, they stated that there is no time to lose for the release of the three people. In addition, they demanded respect for the lives of their loved ones.

“They are not just names on a list of those withheld, they are mothers, fathers, children, siblings and grandparents. They are part of us, of our history, of our dreams,” the letter says.

Likewise, he points out that there is a need for “a minimum temporary humanitarian agreement so that the conditions are met for the release of our relatives.”

They ask President Petro and the High Commissioner for Peace to listen to their cry: “There is no time for more delays, every minute counts,” the letter states.

And they tell the Dagoberto Ramos column that IHL requires respect for the life, dignity, freedom and protection of civilians.
