Cuba aspires to achieve the world and national record of this dance and achieve two feats: the largest number of people dancing in Ruedas de Casino simultaneously and the largest number of Ruedas de Casino dancing at the same time, actions in tribute to National Son Day.
Cuban musical-dance history shows the roots of popular dances as a symbol of the most authentic cultural values of the nation, recalls the statement from the National Council of Houses of Culture.
The casino dance occupies a privileged place within this artistic universe, being one of the noblest genres and with the highest level of participation in the different social strata.
The Retomando el Son Bailando Casino Project, world record holder in 2022 in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, and in coordination with the Ministry of Culture and other Cuban institutions proposed the creation of a national and world record for Casino Wheels, titled World Dance Record Populares y Deportivos Cubanos, which pays tribute to national roots and identity in the fight for cultural decolonization, the text indicated.
The project aspires to resume, rescue and defend this dance, so deeply rooted in popular culture that, according to experts, it unites wills, engenders solidarity, empathy, discipline, a sense of belonging, as well as joy and optimism.
“The casino dancer glimpses solutions beyond adversities, infecting everyone with his magical rhythm, challenging destiny always to the beat of the Son,” the call states.
As part of the initiative, thousands of people will dance this Sunday to the rhythm of Cuban music in Havana and other territories of the country.
