IHG Hotels & Resorts is not yet located in the center of the country, and under this premise it is evaluating the possibility of entering the city of Ibagué with the Holiday Inn chain, which would represent an investment close to 6 million dollars for the installation of a high-level hotel complex that could be located in a strategic sector of the city of Ibagué.

All of this has occurred thanks to the management led by the Ibagué Chamber of Commerce through its investment attraction strategy, within the framework of Invest In Tolima, within which it seeks to promote the city as a sports, hotel and tourist destination. high impact.

Luis Freddy Castañeda, president of the Board of Directors of the CCI, indicated “One of the most important hotels internationally, such as the Holiday Inn, is thinking of building in Ibagué, and this possibility would have an impact on the improvement and economic impact and favorable social situation in the city, an initiative that has our support.”

During this visit, the hotel chain had an agenda of visiting potential locations to validate the viability of the project to be developed.

“We are very pleased to come to see these types of destinations because we definitely see important potential in them. We have toured some projects and we see great potential for hotel development in the region. The progress and plans that the municipal government has together with the private initiative in the future are very interesting, we see an institutional unity that fills us with confidence and reaffirms the possibility of having some of our brands here.” Said Luis René Sánchez, Director of Development for Latin America and the Caribbean of the British multinational hotel company IHG Hotels & Resort.

Sánchez added that they toured projects and land that are interesting for development, but the detailed feasibility study for that particular destination continues, and then continues with the contracting of the franchise, the raising of capital and, above all, the operation. Likewise, he indicated that, once the parties’ interest in executing the project has been confirmed, and the contracting phases, securing resources, feasibility studies, among others, have been completed; It could take between a year and a half to two and a half years to complete the construction of this hotel.

On the other hand, the meeting allowed the development of a work table where the mayor of Ibagué, Johana Ximena Aranda, and part of her work cabinet participated; members of the Board of Directors of the Ibagué Chamber of Commerce, headed by its president Luis Freddy Castañeda; and Luis René Sánchez, Director of Development for Latin America and the Caribbean of the British multinational hotel company IHG Hotels & Resort, who evaluated the different properties for the execution of the project.

The local leader referred to the arrival of possible international investors stating, “What we need is for progress and investment to arrive, where we can offer the tourists who are visiting us the possibility of having high-level hotels, and that is the work we have to do outside, unite in the same direction.”

There, topics were also addressed such as the injection of resources by the Municipal Administration for the Regional Investment Promotion Agency – Invest in Tolima, whose purpose is to promote the city through territorial marketing, strengthening the business fabric, positioning institutional and international visibility, and who made the meeting with the director of this hotel chain possible.
