The rainy period in Cuba begins this month, although not simultaneously throughout the national geography, announced specialists from the Climate Center, of the Institute of Meteorology.
Generally, its process occurs progressively, from the end of April or the beginning of May, starting from the eastern portion towards the western region, until it is established at the end of May throughout the national territory, they added in their traditional study on the climate outlook
According to their forecasts, approximately 74% of the total annual rainfall accumulates in that stage alone, so it is common for it to increase significantly and even be abundant at times.
In their statement, they pointed out that their rainiest months are May, June, September and October.
They depend in practice on the influence of systems typical of the tropical zone, such as eastern waves and tropical lows, on their interaction with mid-latitude systems and on the presence of tropical cyclones.
Cyclonic activity in the country during the May – July quarter is generally lower compared to August-October, although there are also rains associated with diurnal warming that are accompanied by thunderstorms.
The beginning of its great activity begins in June and sometimes in May, when it is manifested by a gradual increase in its actions towards areas of the interior of the country, during the afternoon and early hours of the night.
The cyclonic season in the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico begins on June 1 and extends until November 30.
