Argentina blocks supplies to Cubana de Aviación
Buenos Aires, May 2 (RHC) The Union of Cuban Residents in Argentina (URCA) condemned the application of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against the airline Cubana de Aviación, which forced it to suspend its flights to that South American country.
In a statement issued this week, the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex) indicated that, in March 2024, the company Yacimientos Petrolificadores Fiscales SA (YPF) of Argentina informed the company of its refusal to continue supplying fuel to its aircraft, in application of said fence.
As a result, Cubana was forced to suspend regular flights between Cuba and Argentina, maintained for 39 years. The application of this arbitrary measure by YPF is an evident demonstration, not only of the validity of the application of the genocidal blockade, but of its extraterritorial nature, in addition to the fact that it contravenes the rules of international trade, the text points out.
In a message published on its social media profiles, the URCA criticized YPF’s decision and denounced the consequences of North American policies for the island.
The relations of friendship, fraternity, collaboration and interculturality between the peoples of Cuba and Argentina are long-standing and situations like this harm both, the document states.
It draws our attention that right now YPF is relying on the extraterritoriality of the blockade to justify its actions against Cubana, he adds.
The URCA expressed its support for the Minrex statement, which states that the effects of the blockade were aggravated after the arbitrary and unfounded inclusion of Cuba on the United States list of countries that supposedly sponsor terrorism.
