A tragedy occurred last Wednesday afternoon in the vicinity of the municipalities of Oporapa and Elías when a 23-year-old young man died from immersion.

According to witnesses, the young Brayan David Passo Chantre, who lived in the Tequendama neighborhood of Pitalito, was participating with several family members and friends on a walk in the Magdalena River when, after immersing himself in the mighty tributary, he was swept away by the waters.

Although several people tried to rescue him, they could do nothing, helplessly witnessing how he was dragged by the river that finally left his lifeless body in the place known as El Remolino in the Vega Grande village of Oporapa.

Emergency response agencies and police officials went to the scene and proceeded with the extraction of the body, which was transferred to the headquarters of the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Pitalito for the required procedures.
