The vice president of the Córdoba delegation of the Chamber of Construction, Luis Lumello, spoke with Chain 3 on the situation of the sector, one of the most affected by the deep recession of the Argentine economy.

The almost total cut in national allocations for public works, added to the fall in provincial revenue and the reduction in the sending of funds, paralyzed the investments that both the national government and that of Córdoba were making in road and infrastructure works.

“The stoppage in public works had a very strong impact. In employment, from the 450,000 registered workers that there were in July of last year there are 300,000 throughout the country. In Córdoba, compared to the same periods, they went from 30,000 to 20,000″, he pointed.

“National public works are completely paralyzed. Not even the companies’ debt certificates are being paid from October 2023 onwards,” said Lumello.

There is no news about a possible reactivation. “We know that they are evaluating the works based on progress, the amount of the contract or the risk of accidents that would mean not finishing them but there are still no definitions”

But most of the public works carried out in Córdoba come from provincial funds. “The Province has assigned $700,000 million for public works whose start is slowed down by the failure to send funds from the nation and the drop in collection. We hope that the works plan will begin as soon as the economic conditions are met,” he said.

Mortgage credits

The director of Camarco Córdoba expressed that in the current situation “there is a light at the end of the tunnel” with the launch of mortgage loans.

“This opens up a possibility that did not exist a short time ago and can slowly reactivate the sector,” he said.
