In the midst of the difficult economic situation that the island is experiencing, authorities of one of the Spanish autonomous communities announced a new call for aid to descendants of Spaniards abroad.

This is the Principality of Asturias, which recently announced aid to which both Asturians residing in Latin America, Central America and the Greater Antilles, as well as their descendants, will be eligible.

Cuba is on the list of beneficiary countries, so those who meet certain requirements will be able to access Spanish aid.

The subsidies will be aimed at people over 65 years of age who are in need or who lack sufficient income, according to official Asturian sources.

Likewise, adults between 18 and 64 years old who can prove that they have been victims of gender violence, suffer from a permanent disability to work or suffer from a serious illness may apply for help.

Some 440 thousand euros have been allocated for these efforts, more than during the previous call. At that time, 30 thousand euros less were raised, but 773 subsidies were granted.

On that occasion, almost 500 people residing in Cuba benefited, and now, almost 150 thousand euros were allocated just for aid on the island.

Applications will be received until June 7, either through a form or by presenting the applications in person at the Citizen Service Offices and at the Registration Assistance Offices of the Ministries of the Principality of Asturias.

Requirements to receive aid

-Be registered in the Register of Spaniards Resident Abroad of Asturias.

-Not having donated assets in the 5 years prior to requesting financial aid and currently lacking the assets and income that allow the minimum level of subsistence.
