It is a collaborative procedure that makes it possible to address conflicts between people through a mediator who facilitates communication between the parties, where they are the protagonists. An impartial third party acts by facilitating communication between the people involved in the conflict, so that they themselves can try to agree on an appropriate solution to it.
It was clarified that, in “mediation”, all parties share their point of view, the mediator consults to ensure a clear understanding of the issues relevant to the parties, their interests, and positions. The mediator, not as an attorney for either party, does not give legal advice, does not evaluate or judge the issues addressed in the process, and does not decide who wins or loses.
With community mediation, the participation of the parties is sought; reduce negative feelings; increases the capacity for self-determination; confidentiality; contributes to the quality of life; in a shorter time to provide resolution; strengthens the social, democratic and pacifist culture; It returns the role to the parties in making decisions in their conflicts and allows the parties to develop communication skills that make it possible to replicate them outside of mediation, either with the same person or in other situations to manage their conflicts.
