With the recent death of a homeless man, the number of people buried by stone and mud collapses rose to two amid the heavy downpours and gales that have been occurring in Olima with the arrival of the rains.

The most recent of these emergencies occurred in the Combeima neighborhood, a stratum one area of ​​Ibagué, where the mud fall ended up burying a 60-year-old man, nicknamed ‘Costeño’.

The authorities indicated that he was a homeless adult who lived in a hut that he built several years ago in that hillside area.

“The mud and stone slide fell on a humble home where a homeless person spent his nights,” said residents of the Combeima neighborhood.

“He always told us that nothing would happen,” they added, and recalled that in 2022 a landslide also buried citizen José Orlando Castellanos.

Another unfortunate winter event happened days ago in the rural area of ​​Coello, where a landslide buried a yellow machinery operator who was working in a quarry.

Since the operator did not arrive home, the family went to look for him and to their surprise they found the backhoe he was operating underground.

“The worker died buried, nothing could be done to save his life,” the relief agencies said.

The municipalities with landslide risks are Cajamarca, Coello, Espinal, Cunday, Mariquita, Valle de San Juan and Ibagué.

Jessica Salcedo Secretary of Risk Management in Ibaguésaid that IDEAM issued a red alert for landslides in the Andean zone that includes this city, which keeps relief agencies and in general all authorities on alert.

“We ask for caution on urban roads such as the Chapinero slope, the Chivo turnaround, the Baltazar sector, among others in the rural area, where rock falls are recorded,” said the official.
