Last Tuesday, a young student had a tire stolen when he went to study at the Faculty of Engineering in Capital. Given that, he reported the incident and they learned that the perpetrator had been a taxi driver, identified as Cristian Raúl Benegas, 36 years old.

According to the data provided by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, everything happened on Urquiza Street between Laprida and Rivadavia, where the young man had left his Ford Fiesta parked to go to school, dependent on the National University of San Juan.

However, upon returning he found the unfortunate theft of the right rear wheel of his car. Quickly, the victim alerted the authorities and with the help of local residents, who provided security cameras, they were able to verify that he had been the driver of a taxi-remis, which had parked behind the victim.

The cameras show the moment when Benegas sneaks up to the student’s car, with a cross key in hand, steals the tire, and then runs away.

Finally, the authorities identified him and on the same day, but in the afternoon, they proceeded to arrest him.

For all this, this Thursday he sat in front of the judge and was charged with the crime of simple robbery as the perpetrator. In this framework, a Preparatory Criminal investigation was ordered for a period of 4 months. Meanwhile, Benegas was free, with an electronic tracking bracelet and physical location, which he must wear for a month.
