The Police and Military Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that, for crimes related to public administration, discipline and service, five uniformed Police officers who worked in the south of Cauca were convicted.

The events in which a deputy mayor and five patrol officers are involved took place on February 25 in the municipality of Almaguer.

“The police officers failed to comply with the orders of their superiors, they deviated from their duties and left their place of action to go to a public establishment to consume intoxicating beverages,” stated the investigating body.

Furthermore, the Military and Police Prosecutor’s Office added that, added to these circumstances, those involved were immersed in a fight in which a minor died and two more civilians were injured.

Regarding this case, the Attorney General’s Office had already spoken out through Jesús Hurtado, who at that time directed the Cauca section.

On the date of the events, Hurtado stated that “according to the material evidence, the events would be related and linked to the service, so this investigation would be assumed by the Military Criminal Justice. The Prosecutor’s Office will later have the possibility, if the budgets exist for the ordinary justice system to advance with the investigations.”

Now, a Military and Police Criminal Judge with Specialized Knowledge issued a sentence of between 10 and 16 months in prison against the deputy mayor and the five patrol officers of the National Police.

Finally, the Military and Police Prosecutor’s Office pointed out that the ordinary justice system received a copy of the evidence and the process with the objective of clarifying the murder of the minor and establishing responsibilities.
