Just over a month before the arrival of winter, the vaccination campaign against seasonal influenza began yesterday and the Departmental Service (Headquarters) will prioritize four vulnerable groups and health personnel.

The department received around 130 thousand doses and about 130 are destined for the municipality of Cercado, indicated the coordinator of the Cercado Health Network, Jhareth Sánchez.

The age groups eligible for the campaign are those over 60 years of age, people with underlying illnesses, pregnant women, children under 2 years of age and health personnel. The only requirement is to present your identity card.

Sánchez clarified that the dose for adult influenza is only one vaccine, but in children there are two: the second is applied a month after the first. The Headquarters granted 109,670 doses for adults and 27,520 pediatric doses, which are distributed in the 30 health centers and three municipal hospitals.

“Temperatures are dropping due to the arrival of winter, so it is important to avoid contracting the disease and protect yourself, especially vulnerable groups,” he noted.

According to the Headquarters report for epidemiological week 17, which runs from April 21 to 27, 24,663 cases of acute respiratory infections (ARI) were registered in the department, 31 percent corresponding to children under 5 years of age.

585 cases of pneumonia were also reported. Finally, 4,011 accumulated cases of dengue.
