Promoting the exchange of experiences between defects professionals and the multidisciplinary Health team is part of the priority actions to optimize comprehensive care for the disabled population in Santiago de Cuba.

In this endeavor, the holding of courses, workshops and other meetings promotes the socialization of positive results and the collective construction of a work system focused on increasing the access of these people to opportunities for personal fulfillment, empowerment and social inclusion, among other benefits. .

This was demonstrated by the VII Provincial Conference on People with Disabilities, held recently in this city. The event analyzed the methods to achieve better results in the Health sector, with emphasis on dignified comprehensive care for this sector of the population.

Likewise, it examined the progress of actions that range from the work of defects in the Health areas to the prevention of disability in
children and older adults, as well as the applications of natural and traditional medicine to improve the quality of life of these people.

It is worth highlighting the desire to improve the work of the defects specialists in the Maternal and Child Care Program, and the monitoring of language disorders in the first years of life, early stimulation in children with neurodevelopmental disorders and hearing disabilities, including experiences with cochlear implants.

This event, like other professional meetings, recognized the need to improve work with pregnant women and newborns in the communities, with the aim of promoting their well-being.

Regarding the importance of generating these spaces for dialogue between professionals and people with disabilities, Daniel Portuondo Arencibia, specialist at the Provincial Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, assured that they favor the implementation of measures to guarantee access to employment; and he considered it a strength to have a provincial consultation for the diagnosis and monitoring of his health condition.

In addition, he stressed that each activity seeks to raise awareness about the need to include people with disabilities in society, and support them in their work activity.
