Independiente defeated Juventud Unida 2-0 at the Néstor Díaz Pérez stadium, in the round of 16 of the Argentine Cup and qualified for the round of 16. His next rival will be the winner between Godoy Cruz and El Porvenir.
Alexis Canelo and Alex Luna were the authors of the goals for the Avellaneda team.
In an opaque first half, Carlos Tevez’s team took the initiative and tried to put pressure on the rival field. After 15 minutes, Jhonny Quiñonez had a clear shot after a header, but César Taborda controlled it without problems.
Santiago López, who made his debut as a starter for Rojo, had his chance, but again the goalkeeper of the Federal A Tournament. Before the break, Alexis Canelo could not define alone in the goal and missed the opening of the scoreboard.
In the second half, Rojo changed his face and in the 16th minute, after a corner kick from the left, Alexis Canelo jumped and hit a header that opened the scoring.
The goal boosted Independiente and generated more clear situations like those experienced by Canelo, Alex Luna and David Martínez. Towards the end, Alex Luna appeared in the area and touched it from the floor to seal the 2-0 score.
