Havana.- THE SELECTION Villa Clara once again showed its power during the Cienfuegos 2024 National Sailing Championship, which closed its curtains this Friday.

Those from the central territory won three gold medals, two silver and one bronze to surpass themselves on the tournament podium. Behind were the teams from Ciego de Ávila and Cienfuegos, in that order.

The Avilanians won one title, two second titles and three third places, and the locals won one silver and two bronze medals.

By points, the best were those from Villa Clara with 220 units, those from Avila added 212 and those from Cienfuegos 190.

Individually, the ILCA 7 class had its gold and silver medalists from Holguín, Dennier Infante and Oscar Pérez. The podium was completed by Gabriel Guerra from Ciego de Ávila. The ladies at ILCA 6 awarded Jaimet Ruano from Guantánamo, Yanne Rodríguez and Brihana González, both from Villa Clara.

The women’s table was dominated by Anisley Rodríguez (VCL), followed by Yaimarys Martínez (CAV) and Analia Rivero (CFG). Among the men, Yenier Cueva, Loidel Morel and Tommy Morales, all from Ciego de Ávila, stood out.

In mixed hobby cat, first place went to the Matanzas boat crewed by Zoe Barrios and Pedro Hernández. The second seat was climbed by Havana residents Thalía Corralero and Enmanuel Lugo, followed by locals Danay Manzano and Lian José Reyes.

In the combined snipe, the duet made up of Yasniel Almeida and Liliet Heredero, from Villa Clara, reigned. His teammates Alberto Castro and Daliana González occupied the second step of the podium; Meanwhile, the Avilanians Silfredo Pérez and Alexa Jáuregui finished third.

Finally, in 470, Pedro Echemendía and Disney Rodríguez (VCL) were the gold medalists, accompanied by Yandey Rodríguez and Tairy Tejada, (CFG) and Anilko Castillo and Keren Hernández (CAV).

The organizers of the event crowned Jaimet Ruano from Guantanamo as the best female athlete and the merit among the men went to Dennier Infante, from Holguín. In the mixed boat category, the most outstanding were Yasniel Almeida and Liliet Heredero from Villa Clara.

Yoel Comas was the best coach and Beatriz Berbes stood out among the referees.
