The first quarterly session of the Intersectoral Table No. 20 was held.

Tunja, May 4, 2024. (UACP). The Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development, in its role as leader in the implementation of the Public Policy for Animal Protection and Welfare of Boyacá, convened the first quarterly session of the Intersectoral Table No. 20 to address the main needs of the department in this matter.

During the session, the Animal Welfare and Protection Team of the sector addressed relevant topics such as the importance of academic participation in the population control of dogs and cats, as well as projects related to a mobile veterinary surgical unit, mobile protection days and animal welfare, and the departmental sterilization plan.

These proposals are based on the strengthening of institutional capacity, priority attention to vulnerable populations and the inclusion of academia and research as fundamental pillars for animal protection and well-being in Boyacá.

“The commitment to animal protection and well-being in Boyacá is reflected in every small action we take, whether it is adopting a pet, reporting animal abuse or simply educating others about the importance of animal care. These are acts that contribute to making the world a more compassionate place. Together, we can make a difference,” said Suren Angélica García Vera, advisor to the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development.

The official highlighted the articulated work that this sector develops with the Secretariats of Education, Agriculture and Health of the Boyacá Grande government, as well as with the Boyacá Risk and Disaster Management Unit (UAEGRD) in this process, in which the Secretariat of Planning and the Office of Internal Control act as guarantors.
