César Luis Menotti died this Sunday at the age of 85. The Argentine Football Association (AFA) communicated the sad news through its social media account.

“The Argentine Football Association regrets to report with great sadness the death of César Luis Menotticurrent Director of National Teams and former Argentine World Champion coach,” the note stated.

Menotti coached FC Barcelona in two seasons, 1982-83 and 83-84 in which he won three titles. In his first campaign he won the Copa del Rey and the League Cup, while in the second he won the Super Cup. He arrived at Barça replacing Udo Lattek.

He also coached Atlético de Madrid in Spain in the 1987-88 season, he was fired by the controversial Jesús Gil on matchday 29.. The Colchonera fans remember him fondly for the 0-4 he scored against the whites in a Madrid derby.

His great success came in 1978 when he won the World Cup with Argentina in his country.
