Valle del Cauca does not stop receiving good news in its purpose of positioning itself as a destination in the world.

Recently, it was revealed that the municipality of Cairo will represent the department and the country in the third edition of the prestigious international Best Tourism Villages awards, of the World Tourism Organization (WTO)whose gala is scheduled for the month of August.

The Secretary of Tourism of the Valley, Julián Franco, explained that the municipality of the north of Valle del Cauca was selected from more than one hundred evaluated.

“Cairo stood out for its natural and cultural wealth, being one of the eight municipalities chosen to participate by Colombia in this distinguished contest. This selection highlights the tourism potential of the municipality, offering a unique experience for visitors interested in the bird watchingnature tourism and cultural exploration,” highlights the official.

The head of Tourism of the Valley assures that if it reaches first place, Cairo will receive vital support from the organization of the contest.

“The program will include technical support from the UNWTO for one year. In addition, the municipality will receive a greater investment in tourism promotion, which will make this worldwide destination“This is a reason for pride, let’s remember that the Valley is a paradise for everyone,” adds the official.

From this departmental portfolio, the mere fact of being nominated also represents recognition of the “tourist charm that this municipality has integrated into the coffee cultural landscapeand makes evident the commitment of the departmental government, led by Dilian Francisca Toro, to strengthen the tourism sector of the department”.

In the eight municipalities chosen for the award, the jury will evaluate aspects such as: cultural and natural resources; promotion and conservation of cultural resources; economic sustainability; social sustainability; environmental sustainability; tourism development and value chain integration; tourism governance and prioritization; infrastructure and connectivity; Health and security.
