Voting will be held on 93 Lok Sabha seats in 11 states on May 7. This time the Lok Sabha elections are being held amid the scorching heat. Voting will be conducted in a total of 93 Lok Sabha constituencies on Tuesday, including 10 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh, five in Bihar, 25 in Gujarat, and 11 in Maharashtra. The prevailing heatwave conditions have raised concern and the Election Commission also held a meeting with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in view of the same.

The meeting was held with the top experts from the weather department and health and disaster management agencies. According to IMD, weather conditions will remain normal in 11 states/union territories going to polls on May 7. Let’s take a close look at what the IMD has predicted for all the 11 states:

Strong Winds In These States

On May 7, the Meteorological Department predicted strong winds at a speed of 25-35 km per hour in Uttar Pradesh. Besides this, hot and humid weather is expected in Coastal Gujarat, Saurashtra, Kutch, Coastal Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Kerala and Mahe.

Heatwave Conditions In These Areas

Heatwave conditions may prevail in western Rajasthan, Saurashtra of Gujarat, Kutch and different parts of interior Karnataka. Wind speed of 45 to 65 km per hour is likely to prevail along the coasts of Odisha, West Bengal, South Andhra Pradesh. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into these areas.

Possibility Of Storm In These Places

There is a possibility of a storm accompanied by lightning and strong winds in the Ganga coastal areas of West Bengal. There may be lightning, strong winds, and hailstorms at isolated places in Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand. Strong winds along with lightning are likely at isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Bihar, Odisha and Telangana.

Weather Conditions Normal In These

Weather patterns are expected to change in eastern Uttar Pradesh also, however, the Meteorological Department has not issued any alert for the seats in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh where elections are to be held. The weather department has expressed the possibility of rain in Bihar. Some areas of Chhattisgarh, Assam and Gujarat have been kept under observation by the Meteorological Department. Apart from this, some areas of Maharashtra have been put on orange alert.
