The fans that were used at the Marta Alcira Salotti school so that primary students would not suffer from the high temperatures were stolen over the weekend. A group of unknown people entered the facilities through a hole they made in one of the school walls.

The attack was discovered by the authorities of this establishment located at 6200 Bejanale Street, in the IPV 360 neighborhood of Argüello, northwest area of the city of Córdoba, thanks to a neighbor saying he had seen the hole in the wall.

It was a hole about one and a half meters in diameter.

A hitherto unestablished group of unknown people entered there and took all the ventilation devices, cables and other elements of lesser value.

As they passed, they broke windows and several doors. They also took their time to vandalize the classrooms.

Since the beginning of 2024, according to reports from the educational community, the primary school has suffered four robberies. Two of them were registered in the last 10 days.

Upon returning from school, the Doctor Luis Lezama garden suffered 33 robberies. Due to the extreme danger that this adjacent institution is experiencing, it already has an additional Police.

“We don’t want to deal with that reality and wait for them to hurt us or continue to empty us. It is very difficult for the school to carry out every repair and the children want to go back to studying, but they feel very insecure because now it has been robbed,” said one of the 10 mothers who are leading a measure of force to stop the “wave of thefts”, such how they defined it.

school take

The educational community felt that the new theft was “the straw that broke the camel’s back.” That is why they decided to take over the facilities until the school is once again guarded, 24 hours a day, by an officer from the Córdoba Police.

They arrived this Monday at 7:30 and stayed inside the school. They will remain there, according to what they said in dialogue with La Voz, until they resolve their claim. “Someone has to take charge and they must guarantee a police officer at the door,” they asked from the takeover.

“The teachers had told us that on Friday afternoon they had heard a group of thieves running across the roofs. The next day they came in and took the fans. They made a hole, so they had all the time they needed. But what would have happened if they did it the day before, while our children were inside,” the parents said.

With that conviction, they assured that they are not going to abandon school because “it would be like leaving it at the mercy of criminals.”

Meanwhile, the school reported that the Ministry of Education visited the facilities to repair the walls. Until Monday afternoon, a solution was not reached to unblock the measure of force.

Students could continue without classes this Tuesday.
