This weekend, President Gustavo Petro inaugurated a new hospitalization room at the San José de Maicao Hospital, in La Guajira. The room has 18 new beds that, according to information from the Presidency of the Republic, “will improve the resolution capacity and medical care” of that medical center. In total, 3,788 million pesos were invested.
On this topic, in an interview with Diseño de la Mañana, a news program on Radio Nacional and Canal Institucional, the National Superintendent of Health, Luis Carlos Leal, assured that these 18 beds are “fully equipped” and are “of high quality for the care of multiple patient pathologies, but especially for the care of maternal and obstetric patients.
In this sense, he explained that “it must be highlighted that, thanks to the management carried out by this last intervener, Dr. Larry Javier Laza, it has even been possible that during the last year maternal mortality has decreased to zero.”
Likewise, Superintendent Leal referred to the intervention that, for eight years, Supersalud has carried out at the San José de Maicao Hospital, ensuring that:
“The intervener has understood the need for an intercultural approach, which today has in each of the care rooms and also in the territorial teams people who speak Wayuu, who belong to the Wayuu population and who make it possible for the population to approach each more effectively to understand each of the cultural reasons why there is eventually some distancing with the health system.
Agreement between the ICBF and the San José de Maicao Hospital
Luis Carlos Leal also told the public radio microphones that the “first agreement agreement was signed between the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare and the San José de Maicao Hospital, where a comprehensive care and nutritional rescue plan is generated” and who hope to take him to “many other hospitals.”
He explained that “in San José de Maicao we have the possibility of having a comprehensive nutritional recovery center, where even after the patients leave their hospitalization, where their lives are no longer at risk, because they can stay with their mothers, with their companions, under adequate conditions to complete this nutritional surveillance”.
How are the processes going with the EPS that the superintendency has intervened in?
Luis Carlos Leal also referred to the interventions that Supersalud has carried out with some EPS in the country. In this regard, he assured that the services are being provided “with absolute normality.”
He added that “there has been an increase in PQRs, but it is normal after an intervention that there is a slight increase in PQRs due to the same anguish of the people in not adequately understanding what the need is or what the measure is that is taken with the intervention”
“The curve is now stabilizing again, we are accompanying the auditors in a PMU that we have been developing with the installation that the president made almost a month ago, where we have been not only exchanging successful experiences that some EPS auditors may have , but also interacting with some special intervening agents of the EPS and taking into account the needs of each one of them.”
He concluded by saying that they are waiting for the three EPS that have been intervened to present their situation analysis report, “that is, to deliver the financial information and contract data that each of the EPS had and that based on those findings initial statements that each of them have within the organization present what the improvement plan is going to be.
