Two golds and a silver for La Rioja in the Gravni finals

This weekend the different finals of the Gravni were held in Vitoria, the prestigious tournament that pits players from Guipúzcoa, La Rioja, Álava, Vizcaya, Navarra and Iparralde against each other. The Rioja representatives participated in three finals. And the weekend closed with two gold medals.

The weekend began with the great news of Andrea Capellán’s victory in the Youth category individual hand final. The Rioja woman won the Ogueta fronton by a tight 20-22 against the Navarrese representative, Naia Bertiz. Many difficulties for the Rioja pelota player who, finally, managed to reach card 22 and win a more than meritorious gold medal.

It was Saturday morning and the Rioja expedition began in style. At the same time that Capellán won, the absolute women’s frontenis final was held at the Mendi fronton, between La Rioja and Navarra. On the Rioja side, Sandra and Nura took the fronton, while Iriarte and Huarte appeared on the regional community. There was no option for the Riojans, who lost both games and had to be content with the silver medal.

In the afternoon, also in Ogueta, Navarra and La Rioja faced each other in the absolute men’s pairs final. Cuairan and Canabal played on the Navarrese side, and Fernández and Loza played on the Riojan side. Unexpected result, since the Riojan duo won with a solvency inappropriate to a final that was predicted to be much more disputed. In the end, a gold medal for Fernández and Loza who won 4-22.

On the other hand, also in the field of amateur pelota, the weekend also left us with the triumph of the Riojan pelota player from Club Najerino, Javier Tuesta, Paraguayan VIII, at Villa de Aoiz. The man from Rioja defeated, together with Navarrese defender Iker Ancizar (Erreka), Unai Esain (Esteribar) and Aimar Gómez (Ardoi Zizur) by 22-15.
