The Magdalena Regional Autonomous Corporation, Corpamag, held a meeting with the community of the El Oriente village of the Minca district, Santa Marta, to answer the call for interactions between felines and farm animals.

In this first socialization, the community was heard about its perception regarding the presence of felines in the area. In addition, guidance was provided on the measures that should be implemented on the property for the correct management of domestic animals.

This day takes place prior to the workshops that will be held in the area to promote respect and protection of felines in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

According to the entity, the community is willing and committed to the protection of the species.

Finally, Corpamag shares some practices to coexist peacefully with the jaguar:

-Avoid hunting wild animals, because the natural prey of big cats is reduced.

-Protect forests

-Keep domestic and farm animals in places close to the home and in pens.

-In the farms, install and turn on lights at night, as well as electric fences in the pastures.

Let us remember that the Jaguar and the Puma are essential for the proper functioning of ecosystems, regulating the number of other animals such as mice, snakes and foxes that can affect crops.
