Start of HIV self-test delivery agreement between SEREMI de Salud and SEREMI of Tarapacá Government – CEI News

This Friday began the beginning of the alliance strategy between the SEREMI of Health of Tarapacá and the SEREMI of the Government of Tarapacá in order to have a greater reach with the HIV self-test strategy in the region.
This initiative arises from a collaboration between the Ministry of Health and the Division of Social Organizations (DOS). Its objective is to bring self-tests to various social organizations, providing greater accessibility to the self-test kit and distributing it during the different instances of “Government on the Ground.”
Remember that the HIV self-test strategy was initiated in the Tarapacá region, which sought to generate greater autonomy for people, diversifying the channels of access to HIV screening in an area of greater intimacy and privacy. To date, a total of 3,872 self-tests have been delivered throughout the region.
The Minister of Government, Rodrigo Vargas, commented on the self-test as “a way of providing a tool to those people who want to test themselves autonomously and privately, which will undoubtedly support the Ministry of Health in this public policy.
While the Minister of Health of Tarapacá, David Valle, referred to this alliance as “a very good instance to be able to diversify the HIV self-test strategy, help lower the indices and incidence rates of the presence of HIV in our region and throughout the country.
On the other hand, the president of the Alto Hospicio Community , Rosa González, described the initiative as “excellent to reach more neighbors, the community in general, since today the issue is very alert and cases of HIV have increased. Therefore, this measure is very good to reach out to neighbors so that they can take this test, which is very important to protect themselves, their children, their grandchildren and the community in general.”
The activity also had a vaccination point for the leaders who arrived and for the public officials of the Presidential Delegation, Regional Government, SEREMI of Social Development and the SEREMI of Government.
Currently, the region has 58% influenza vaccination, exceeding the national average of 50%, while SARS CoV-2 vaccination reaches 17% below the national average of 19%.
