One more year, International Museum Day will take place in Salta at the initiative of the Provincial Government, through the Ministry of Culture and the Undersecretary of Cultural Heritage. At a global level, it is organized by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), a non-governmental organization that brings together more than 40,000 museum professionals from around the world.

The history of Museum Day dates back to 1977, when ICOM decided to create a special day to raise awareness in society about the importance of museums as guardians of cultural and natural heritage. In this sense, Salta is no exception. As every year, municipal, national, provincial and private museums will join in, with a variety of activities and events under the motto “Museums for education and research.”

On Saturday, May 18, throughout the day, more than 25 museums from across the province will join in celebrating International Museum Day. Like every year, admission will be free and there will be different options to enjoy with the family.

“The museums of Salta are guardians of the memory and cultural heritage of the province, preserving and disseminating the history, culture and traditions of the region. International Museum Day provides the opportunity to highlight the importance of these spaces as education, research and reflection centers, as well as promoting the active participation of the community in their activities,” highlighted the Undersecretary of Cultural Heritage, Claudia Lamas.

Among the notable activities on the agenda scheduled for Saturday the 18th, we can mention the presentation of the Salta Museums Network, at 10:30, at Explora Salta (La Florida 20); the Drawing Jam “2D Museums – Draw your Favorite Museum”, which will start at 3 p.m., at the Museum of Fine Arts ( 992); and the cultural walk “Museums +65 for an active maturity”, which will consist of a tour of different museums aimed at older adults and that will begin at 5:00 p.m., in the Recova del Cabildo.

Soon, the complete agenda of activities will be published so that adults and children can choose their favorites and join this activity that attracts thousands of Salteños and tourists every year. It can be consulted at www.culturasalta.gov.ar and on the social networks (Facebook and IG) of Connected Museums and Cultural Heritage of Salta.
