The 56th anniversary of the fire on Patria Street between Santovenia and Unión Ahorro, in the capital municipality of Cerro, where two fighters from the Cuban Fire Department lost their lives, was remembered this Monday in Havana, with a political-cultural event.

A pilgrimage led by Jesús Otamendiz Campos, Vice Governor of Havana, Yosvsni Cañete Vega, first Secretary of the Party in the Cerro and First Colonel Luis Carlos Guzmán Matos, Chief of the Cuban Fire Department, was carried out at the place, where it was placed a floral offering as a tribute to the combatants Iván Lugo Machado and Elías Moya Téllez who fell in the line of duty.

A minute of silence was observed, and local pioneers participated in a cultural activity.

The Vice Governor of the capital, Jesús Otamendiz Campos, spoke the central words of the commemoration, highlighting that the new generations must know this fact, described as an act of sabotage perpetrated by the enemies of the Revolution, where two young combatants offered their lives.

Also attending the commemoration were Hennersey Cadenas Jaca, President of the Municipal Assembly of Popular Power of Cerro, Colonel Tania Fernández Cordero, Chief of the PNR in the capital, and other chiefs and officials of the Cuban Fire Department.

The tribute act is part of the start in Havana of the 58th edition of the National Day of the Security and Protection System against Fires, Physics and Nauticals.
