A cousin warned the accused of the crime of Professor Pedro José Sáez about the other accused: “She always went with older and different men”

The third session of the trial for the murder of retired professor Pedro José Sáez took place this Wednesday with a first part, a prelude to the police statements, in which the testimony of a cousin of the accused stood out, who was very critical of his relationship with the other defendant. «Logroño is a handkerchief. “I am no one to judge, but I advised my cousin to stay away from that woman because he was not a good person,” he explained. A worker in a hospitality establishment, the cousin recalled that he saw his cousin’s then romantic partner “always with older and different men.” “There was a tremendous difference, it didn’t fit,” he added.

After trying to persuade him on several occasions to break that relationship, he once went to his apartment in Lardero, in November 2019, and met the accused, who he assured “went like butterflies, from flower to flower.” .

“He had told me he was going to leave her, but he hadn’t and that made me feel bad,” he argued. «Until he met her, my cousin was well off but from then on, not. He even asked me for money and he told me that he was taking from him what he had and what he didn’t have. I took it personally that he had not listened to me and I walked away from my cousin,” she said before describing the relationship as “intermittent and toxic.”

Beyond the sentimental, this Wednesday morning there was also talk of economic issues, specifically those related to the rental of the apartment that the accused left when he left Logroño shortly after the crime. The landlady explained that the accused’s hasty departure surprised her because she described him as “a collaborator and quite a good person.”

«It seemed quite strange to me and I didn’t expect it from him. He stopped showing signs of life for a month or so. “I called him many times until the phone stopped working,” he recalled. The keys to the apartment that the accused had rented in María Teresa Gil de Gárate returned to the landlady through a friend of his. When he was able to enter the home he found perfumes that he described as “expensive, not from Mercadona” (although when asked by the defense he assured that he could not determine if they were fakes) and quite a few clothes. “If he didn’t leave everything before leaving, he did leave some things,” he said.

During the first part of this day, we were also able to hear the testimonies of several neighbors who confirmed that Pedro José used to always be alone and that he stood out for his kindness. The session will continue this Wednesday with the first police statements.
