Position Granma as a more comprehensive province, this year’s goal

Placing Granma as the most comprehensive province during this year is the primary objective of sports, physical education and recreation workers in this territory, it emerged this Wednesday at the joint Sports-UPEC meeting, held in Campechuela, land of the Three-time ball champions in this eastern portion of the country.

Teresa Yamila Méndez Álvarez, provincial director of Sports, highlighted that there is a committed workforce, high-performance athletes and the support of family members, as well as political and government organizations, agencies and institutions.

In that sense, he highlighted the results that Granma exhibits in national competitions, highlighting its second place in the Pioneros Cup, with only 31 points below the leader Habana, which although it satisfies everyone, it does not please us, since there are still disciplines where it is It is necessary to unite willingness and efforts to ascend to better places.

During the monthly meeting, transcendental competitive events were announced, such as the 60th edition of the School Games, scheduled for next July to be held in Santiago de Cuba, where the territory’s goal is to reach third place in the standings.

In this context, the best athletes of the month of April were announced, with the scepter going to Alfredo Despaigne with recognition to the also Alazanes Guillermo Avilés and Yulieski Remón; while in the children’s category, Ana Inés Vargas from Pentatlón (F) and gymnast Abrahán David Fonseca Espino (M) rose to the highest podium.

Likewise, the members of the specialized Circle of the sports press in Granma received information about the activities with a view to the provincial holiday in this municipality for the Day of physical culture and recreation, a tribute already committed to joy, massiveness and how town festival

The visitors also observed a normal work day at the Carlos Barrabí Leyva sports team, where they exchanged with athletes in training and with outstanding results in different disciplines, and others who make up the Glorias Deportivas team, as well as enjoying a dance therapy and of the work with the grandparents’ circles, a task that exemplifies the reason for the results of this town as a land of champions.

In Campechuela, it was known, 24 sports disciplines are practiced, with the Campechueleros being the owners of the first provincial positions in first category baseball (crown retained for three years), as well as in field tennis, Basque pelota and handball, category 11-12 years.

Likewise, a first national place in field tennis (9-10 years) for men and women stands out; third place in first category baseball in the national Champion Clubs Championship; and fourth place in that instance in Basque pelota (9-10 years) for men and women.

Also noteworthy are the provincial second places in baseball category 9-10 and 13-14 years old, and basketball (11-12 male and female), as well as two provincial third places in judo (11-12 years male and female) and a fourth place in chess (11-12 women).

For four consecutive years, Campechuela has exhibited its status as Provincial Vanguard, based on the results of its community physical activity, physical recreation, education and sports, merits that support its headquarters as concentrated in the preparation of the category (9-10 years ) with a view to the national baseball championship.
