An incident at the Coliseo Mayor de Santa Marta left a young basketball player in critical condition. Kmiller Brochero, 17, suffered a skull fracture when a basketball backboard fell on him.

The board, which had been removed from the field by the staff of the District Institute for Recreation and Sports (Inred) for a match of another sports discipline, was manipulated without authorization by Brochero and his teammates. In an attempt to relocate him for training, the team fell, hitting Brochero in the head.

After the incident, Kmiller’s colleagues and Inred staff transferred Brochero to the Mar Caribe Clinic, where he remains in the Intensive Care Unit under specialized medical care.

The Director of Inred, Hideraldo Espinosa, and his team are accompanying Brochero’s family in this difficult time. In that sense, A vigil will be held for Brochero’s recovery today, Thursday, May 16, 2024, starting at 6 pm, in front of the statue of Pibe Valderrama, main entrance of the Eduardo Santos Stadium.
