Three puppies yaguareté born in freedom in the Iberá National Parkwere recorded in a video of the cameras in the estuaries area, within the framework of the reintroduction project of that species and which is part of a joint work between the National Parks Administration (APN), the government of the province of Corrientes and the Rewilding Argentina Foundation ( FRA).

As indicated on the official website of the National Parks Administration, this is the third litter of puppies, children of Juruna, a female from the Criadouro Científico NEX (Brazil) and Coli, a male from the Faro Moro shelter (Paraguay) who He was released in September of last year.

With these three new puppies, there are now six litters of yaguareté who were conceived in freedom within the Iberá National Park.

The video is part of the monitoring of the camera traps and the geographical location records emitted by the Juruna and Coli radio collars. In this way, it was first possible to corroborate the mating between these specimens, from which the puppies were conceived.

“This is a milestone for the project and the region, since it is the first time that a litter of three puppies has been recorded in the Park, something unusual for the species,” the park rangers stated in the video disseminated in the networks of National Parks.

Furthermore, they indicated that these offspring “are of great importance to continue increasing the genetic variability of the founding population of Iberá jaguars, since they represent the first offspring of Coli, the last male released in this great wetland.”

The puppies join a team of just over 20 individuals that live in the Iberá National Parkafter almost two years of registering the first jaguars born and conceived in the wild in that natural area after 70 years of their extinction in the area.

In this way, the population reintroduced to the estuaries continues to expand and is positioned as one of the ones with the largest number of specimens of yaguareté in the country.

Its presence is of vital importance in that environment where it can fulfill its ecological role as a top predator. The registration of a new litter of offspring allows us to see the fruits of the articulated work that the national, provincial jurisdictions and the civil sector have been carrying out to achieve the goal of recovery of the Natural Monument Yaguarete in Argentina.
