“This pipe that you see in the photo went to B Street in Los Pinos, and filled a neighbor’s tanks and charged her quite a lot, but no one could get water, because we had to pay for it,” denounced Mayeta, warning that the piperos are taking advantage of the difficult situation of the population to profit.

However, the real root of the problem lies in the fact that the regime has not resolved the crisis facing the community for more than 20 days, forcing people to take extreme measures, such as collect the precious liquid directly from a leak in the street.

The lady who contacted journalist Mayeta expressed that the community is demanding that the government of Santiago de Cuba restore supply in the neighborhood, since “many families do not have a single bit to do household chores,” which especially affects children and the elderly.

The latter, on many occasions, are unable to carry water or travel to places where there is a supply.

Through some neighbors, CyberCuba confirmed that there are people who They have been without water supply service for more than a monthand are forced to move to other areas of the city to access the precious liquid.

“Yesterday a weak trickle arrived that did not reach the elevated tank at my house. Thanks to a neighbor who filled some bottles for me, I have some water to drink and cook with,” commented an elderly woman from the town.

The precarious situation of the water supply in the Santiago neighborhood, as well as in other communities, together with the ineffectiveness of the local government, has led to the appearance of diseases in the population.

Mayeta reported on Facebook on Saturday that there is a “large outbreak” of epidemic with symptoms of fever and vomiting in the Quintero, Santa María and Boniato districts, in the main municipality.

The information was confirmed by more than 300 people in the publication.

“Right now I know more than 20 infested people and I also had it, they are unbearable headaches, fever, back pain, vomiting, diarrhea, pain in the eyes and when you heal it leaves you with a lot of laziness and minor pain head for a few days,” said one self-employed person.

“I was in serious condition and in my area almost everyone was the same. There are lights everywhere and they say there is no oil,” said a singer.
