Agreement between Neuquén and Río Negro to extend the concessions of four dams

The executives of Neuquén and Río Negro agreed to a new extension for the concessions of four hydroelectric dams in the region, which expired between the 15th and 19th of this month.

These are the dams located on the Limay and Neuquén rivers. Yesterday the concessions of Alicurá, El Chocón-Arroyito and Cerros Colorados expired, so there will be a new extension of them until August 11. It should be noted that the concession corresponding to Piedra del Águila had already been extended until June 28.

The decision was made after a meeting in which the Minister of Infrastructure of Neuquén, Rubén Etcheverry, participated; the Secretary of Energy of Río Negro, Andrea Confini; and the Secretary of Energy of the Nation, Eduardo Rodríguez Chirillo.

In relation to the renewal of the concessions of the hydroelectric dams, an upcoming meeting has already been announced in which the governors of Neuquén and Río Negro, Rolando Figueroa and Alberto Weretilneck respectively, will participate.

This agreement between both Patagonian provinces occurs in a framework of uncertainty taking into account the intention of the Executive led by Javier Milei to privatize state companies, many of them contemplated within the Bases Law which, after obtaining half a sanction in Deputies, could finally be debated this week in the Senate of the Nation.

Finally, it is worth clarifying that the companies in charge of the dams are ENEL (El Chocón-Arroyito), AES (Alicurá), Aconcagua (Cerros Colorados) and Central Puerto (Piedra del Águila).
