San José and Belalcázar promote higher education with the “University in your Town” program

The municipalities of San José and Belalcázar have taken a significant step in the promotion of higher education with the implementation of the “University in your Town” program of the University of Caldas. This program, which seeks to bring university education closer to rural areas, has been well received by local communities and municipal actors.

During his visit to San José and Belalcázar, the rector of the University of Caldas, Fabio Hernando Arias Orozco, along with other officials, socialized the program and evaluated the progress of the training groups. In San José, the rector was accompanied by the Director of the Agroindustrial Processing Technology Program, Henry Hernán Castaño García. They visited the students who are currently training in the Professional Technician programs in Web Development and Agroindustrial Processing, which are advancing towards a double degree along with the baccalaureate.

In a meeting with Mayor Jorge Andrés Henao Castaño and the rector of the Santa Teresita Educational Institution, the possibility of taking a Professional Technology in Agroindustrial Processing was discussed with the high school graduates, thus consolidating the educational offer in the municipality.

Initiatives in Belalcázar

In Belalcázar, the “University in your Town” program was presented to the Municipal Council, where a debate began on the creation of a 2% pro-university stamp. This measure aims to finance university places for local young people and facilitate the creation of STEAM classrooms in collaboration with the National University.

Joan Sebastián Bedoya, president of the Municipal Council of Belalcázar, highlighted the importance of the program: “It is important that the University reaches our municipality, since we have worrying figures in terms of access to education; Therefore, this program is essential for our young people to strengthen their life projects through technical, technological and professional programs.”

«The “University in your Town” program represents a joint effort between the University of Caldas and the municipalities to offer greater educational opportunities to young people in rural areas. This initiative not only improves access to higher education, but also strengthens the personal and professional development of students, contributing to the social and economic progress of the region,” said the University of Caldas.
