The offensive against the EMC in Cauca will continue and the roads will be reinforced: General Rodríguez

This Monday a faction of Central General Staff (EMC), the main dissident of the FARC, harassed the police station in Morales, Cauca, for about two hours, where the public force arrived hours later to support the police and regain control.

In that attack, patrolmen Jaime Andrés Calderón Reyes and Diego López Domínguez died. while three other uniformed officers were injured. The death of two civilians who were deprived of their liberty was also reported.

The EMC terrorist attacks intensified in that region of the country after last March the National Government suspended the bilateral ceasefire in the departments of Nariño, Valle del Cauca and Cauca due to the violence of that armed group against indigenous people and against the public force.

Faced with this new escalation of violence in the southwestern Colombia, the president Gustavo Petro ordered the displacement of the military leadership to the region, as well as the installation of a permanent Security Council.

At the end of an extraordinary council due to the events presented in Cauca, the Minister of Defense, Iván Velásquez, announced more measures within the framework of the offensive against this dissidence:

“The terrorist wave unleashed by the EMC is not a weakness of the Military Forces, but, on the contrary, the terrorist organization tries to counteract in this way the good results of the Public Force.”

In dialogue with 6AM Today, General Erik Rodríguez, Commander of the Joint Command of the Military Forces in Cauca gave details of the strategy that the Public Force will implement to protect the population in this department.
