The drivers evaded this inspection and tried to run over the members of the patrol with the trucks, to which the Chilean Army and Carabineros personnel used their service weapons against the vehicles, leaving two injured with gunshot wounds and recovering two. of the three vehicles that were in charge of theft. The third driver fled in his vehicle.

Once the vans involved, which had been charged with theft, were arrested, the injured drivers were treated by medical personnel from the military patrol and later transferred to the nearest care center in the commune of San Pedro de Atacama. In this procedure, no official from the Chilean Army or Carabineros was injured.
