05/23/2024. The Governor of Salta and his counterparts from San Juan, Jujuy, Catamarca and Mendoza signed the constitutive act that outlines the roadmap for copper development in Cuyo and Noa.

Salta, San Juan, Jujuy, Catamarca and Mendoza constitute the Interprovincial Argentine Copper Roundtable whose main function will be to coordinate public policies for the economic and social development derived from the research, extraction, production, industrialization and marketing of copper and its products.

The 10th International Exhibition: San Juan Minera, was the setting where the governors of Salta signed the agreement, Gustavo Saenz; San Juan, Marcelo Orrego; from Catamarca, Raul Jalil; from Jujuy, Carlos Sadir and from Mendoza, Alfredo Cornejo. He also signed as coordinator of the national mining policy, the Secretary of Mining of the Nation Luis Lucero. The three-day event was organized by the specialized media Panorama Minero.

The event that brought together more than 15 thousand people, 30 mining companies, 250 exhibitors and delegations from 15 countries, was also attended by the governor of Córdoba, Martin Llaryora.

Gustavo Sáenz affirmed that the constitution of the Copper Table is “a historical fact” and “a concrete example of how federalism can promote progress and cooperation to promote and guarantee opportunities and economic growth.” He added in this regard: “We understand that true success is only achieved when we join our efforts.”

Sáenz, as president of the Lithium Roundtable, said that this is an important precedent for the Copper Roundtable and how they can work together even with leaders from different political spaces.

“Today and this is the opportunity to take advantage and demand that important projects be launched; We have to get to work. We can’t keep waiting. There are projects that are more than 50 years old and still without progress. It is now when the country and the provinces need them; It is now when the world demands it,” added Governor Sáenz.

In this regard, he recalled that the activation of the projects translates into employment, development, foreign exchange and growth for the provinces and the Nation. At this point, he stressed the importance of sustainable mining, the development of communities and local suppliers and the care of natural resources “which we ratify: they belong to the provinces.”

Furthermore, the governor of Salta recalled that the constitution of this space comes at a crucial moment for the industry with the discussion in Congress of the Incentive Regime for Large Investments (RIGI). “It is historic, unprecedented and generous,” he described, adding: “know that here there are governors who work together, jointly, in solidarity and responsibly, thinking about the Argentines and the inhabitants of each of our towns.”

He concluded: “We did not reach the May Pact, but in May we made a great pact to jointly advance the development of mining.”
