A total of 92 activities will take place this year on Heritage Day in the Tarapacá region, an activity that this year will take place this weekend, on Saturday, May 25 and Sunday, May 26, and will commemorate its 25 years of history.
This was reported by the seremi of Cultures, Arts and Heritage, Rose-Marie Acuña, together with the regional director of the Cultural Heritage Service, José Barraza and the regional cabinet, represented by the seremis of Government, Rodrigo Vargas, Sports, Vania Llantén, Economy, Development and Tourism, Jorge Julio, Public Works, Juan Papic and Housing, Diego Rebolledo, as well as the regional director of Sernatur, Milissa Ostojic, who came to the Sports Museum, to invite the community to participate in the different instances that will take place within the framework of this citizen festival and end with a live sample of cachimbo.

Regarding the activities organized by the Seremi de las Culturas, on Saturday the album “Leyendas del Deporte Iquiqueño” will be delivered to girls and boys at the Cecrea center, located at Baquedano 951, which includes great athletes from the region that have positioned Iquique as “Land of Champions”, work carried out together with the Sports Museum.

On Sunday the 26th, at 10 a.m., the “Weaving Workshop on Waist Loom” will be held by the cultists Catalina Castro and Silvia Blay, while at 11:45 the central event of Heritage Day is scheduled, which will include the presentation to the community of the restoration design of the Former Customs by the MOP Architecture Directorate, the Iquique Anthem will be sung at 12 noon along with the brass band “Carrero y su bandita”, dance of cachimbo with the Méndez Albarracín School of the Town of Tarapacá and the presentation of the Ájil Mallku group with the Aymara singer, 2023 regional award winner, Máxima Mamani.

Regarding the regional Directorate of Heritage, director José Barraza reported that one of the novelties this year is that the Cultural Heritage Service scheduled its activities for the morning of Saturday, May 25 at the Humberstone Saltpeter Office World Heritage Site. The day will begin with a parade with a brass band and then continue with three presentations by the lyrical singer Marisol Hernández together with the White Voices Choir and Chamber Choir of the Municipal Theater of Iquique, at the Humberstone Theater, at Teatro La Palma and at church.
During the afternoon, in the Engineering and Architecture Hall of the Arturo Prat University, the discussion on Heritage and Gender will take place, to offer a space for reflection and exchange of opinions, on the challenges, opportunities and difficulties that women have had to face. in the development, visibility and enhancement of heritage in the Tarapacá region.
On Sunday, May 26, at the Serpat headquarters in Baquedano with Gorostiaga, the “Teertulia: between tea and lemon verbena, telling Morrinas Memories” will be held, where a group of neighbors from different generations of the traditional El neighborhood will meet. In parallel, in the Unap Engineering and Architecture Hall, the Regional Technical Office of the Council of National Monuments will develop the activity “Open Dialogues: Challenges for the future of our Typical Area of ​​Calle Baquedano.” This is an event open to the community and aimed at collecting concerns from the inhabitants and users of the Typical Zone.
Finally, the presentation of the Pica communal group “Dance, passion and sand” will take place at 11:30 a.m. and the Federation of Andean Dances of Tarapacá, who will be in charge of closing the day starting at 1:30 p.m. .
