Three weeks after the full Municipal Council supported the idea of requesting that the Elías Figueroa Brander Stadium, the Renato Raggio sports center and the Alejo Barrios Park in Playa Ancha be managed again by the municipality, the collection of signatures began where Residents of Valparaíso have been able to become part of this call to the central government.
In that sense, Mario Oyer, former president of the Santiago Wanderer Corporations and one of the promoters of the initiative, commented that “To begin these efforts it is necessary that the greatest number of Buenos Aires men and women be aligned in the idea of this sports hub.” Furthermore, Oyer added that “the ideal is for this to be transversal, here we are not only talking about the point of view of football, but of all the athletes who practice there. So the call is to join forces and join in.”
The collection of signatures is being carried out through the platform change.org and so far it already has the support of more than one hundred and twenty residents of the city.
Meanwhile, regarding the projections that the municipality has for these spaces, the director of Community Development, Carla Meyer, I affirm that “They must be open without any type of discrimination to all sports organizations that wish to use it, whether for training or competition. There are many teams that participate in tournaments of different disciplines—athletics, soccer, volleyball, etc.—and that raise the name of the city.”
In addition, Meyer he announced that “It would be a great attraction, both for the city and the Playa Ancha hill, if the stadium could be promoted as a tourist spot, as happens in many cities around the world, which offer different types of tours and experiences there.”
