With the prominent absence of the director of Departmental Risk Management Guillermo Velandia and limited access to the press, the visit of the National Director of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management (UNGRD), Carlos Alberto Carrillo Arenas, took place.

Authorities from across the department had contact with this official on his first official visit to Casanare; where the president of Yopal, Marco Tulio Ruíz Riaño, took him to visit Torres del Silencio, to address issues such as the demolition and construction of housing solutions in Torres del Silencio.

At the meeting, the second phase of protection works in the Parque La Iguana sector was highlighted, a project that aims to reduce the risk of flooding in the area.

Another relevant aspect addressed was the protection works for the water purification plant, essential to guarantee the continuous supply of drinking water to the inhabitants of Yopal.

In addition, the demolition and construction of housing solutions in Torres del Silencio was discussed, along with rental subsidies for the community, which aims to alleviate the financial burden of residents while the construction of the new apartments is completed.

Likewise, corrective intervention was addressed through protection works on the right bank of the Cravo Sur River, upstream of the La Manga Bridge, to reduce the phenomenon of lateral scour and protect the bridge structure.

Within the framework of the visit of the director of the UNGRD, the mayor with his work team and Governor Cesar Ortiz Zorro, organized a tour of the Torres del Silencio housing complex with the purpose of talking with the residents and learning first-hand about their needs.

This visit, far from leaving hope for those affected by this project, was another disappointment; adding to the already long list of visits by illustrious people who have passed through there in the last decade, with many promises, but with almost no solution.

Mayor Ruíz Riaño will have to make the decision to proceed to demolish these towers once and for all and not postpone the agony of these families any longer.
