In which various social actors from the intervened sector are collaborating, such as the Neighborhood Council and the Sports Club.

The National Service for the Prevention and Rehabilitation of Drug and Alcohol Consumption (SENDA) has, among its objectives, to be responsible for developing and executing policies for the prevention of drug and alcohol consumption. Under this premise, the SENDA Previene Vicuña office together with the town of Villaseca, are promoting this objective, through various recreational, sports and community activities.

For this reason, they developed the action plan for 2024, where the Sports Club and the Neighborhood Council collaborate, among other social actors. In this context, last Friday, May 17, the first community sports day was held, an Inaugural Baby Soccer Tournament, which responds to one of the 4 lines of work developed by SENDA, the neighborhood program.

In this sense, the regional director of SENDA, Rodrigo Maturana Villarroel, said he was very happy with this activity, which is carried out through the agreement with the municipality of Vicuña. “We are convinced that one of the great challenges is working with the neighborhoods and with children and adolescents. We are installing focused work and here in Villaseca we work with an educational establishment, also promoting everything that has to do with neighborhood logic, the Neighborhood Council, sports clubs and complementing the intervention to generate more effective policies regarding the prevention of alcohol and drug consumption.”

For her part, the community coordinator of SENDA Previene, Macarena Hidalgo Hidalgo, highlighted that prevention is a long-term strategy. “One does not prevent with 1 soccer match, but if that match is within a strategy where there are more activities and we train and install prevention capacities in the leaders, in the family, we can talk about prevention. What we also seek is to promote the good use of free time in our children, so we want to prevent them from going down the path of drugs and alcohol. “We want to strengthen all the preventive and protective factors in our children and adolescents.”

Finally, councilor Kether Gómez Pastén pointed out the importance of collaborative work, which allows us to obtain these results. “Prevention and sport go hand in hand, today when we are experiencing complex issues with vices and addictions. Today we are celebrating prevention by holding a baby soccer tournament with the community, some territorial managers have been created, mainly the sports club, the solar cookers, groups, all united working on prevention and sport is undoubtedly one of the combative ways to “attack drug and alcohol addiction,” concluded the also president of the Sports Commission.

Students from the training football school that is being run at the Edmundo Vidal Cárdenas School in Peralillo and members of the children’s series from the Villaseca Sports Club participated in the event.
