The fourth date of the World Rally Raid Championship, which will be held from June 1 to 7 in Córdoba, San Juan and La Rioja, will be attended by 115 competitors.

There is only a little more than a week left until the start of the 12th edition of the Desafío Ruta 40 YPF INFINIA 2024. It will be 3,057 kilometers, with 1,792 kilometers of special, with the presence of the best pilots in the specialty.

In motorcycles, the competition will be red hot with great champions on the roads and a notable presence of manufacturers since the race will feature the presence of Hero, Honda, Husqvarna, KTM and GasGas.

Husqvarna Factory Racing will be well represented with the participation of the Argentine Luciano Benavides. The world champion in 2023 will compete on national soil wearing the number 1. The Ruta 40 Challenge will also mark the return to action of the Salta native as well as Sam Sunderland and Daniel Sanders (Red Bull GasGas Factory Racing), then of his participation in the Dakar last January.

Hero MotoSports Team Rally will arrive in Argentina with four competitors, among them, the current leader of the W2RC tournament, Ross Branch. In addition, it will present two great novelties with South American ties: The debut of the Chilean, Nacho Cornejo, wearing the brand’s colors, and also the team’s first participation in Rally2, which will be represented by the Peruvian driver Ramiro Barco Oliva. For its part, Monster Energy Honda Team will have five riders, among which are the winner of the 2024 Dakar Rally, Ricky Brabec, and the winner of Route 40 in 2023, Tosha Schareina.

The Quad competition will also be electrifying with the presence of 17 registered pilots. This category has a great history of great Argentine champions, and of course it will have the presence of one of the most important references in recent years: Manu Andujar. The winner of the 2024 Dakar Rally and W2RC champion in 2021, will seek to repeat the victory achieved in DR40 in 2023.

Among the cars, the Qatari driver and local idol Nasser Al Attiyah (Nasser Racing by Prodrive) will also be in the game. The World Championship leader will have great rivals around him such as Yazeed Al Rajhi (Overdrive Racing), Seth Quinteros (Toyota Gazoo Racing), the Argentines Juan Cruz Yacopini (Overdrive Racing) and Sebastián Halpern (X-Raid Mini JCW Team); as well as the Baumgart brothers (X Rally Team Motorsports LTDA).

The coming race

Pablo Eli, Sports Director, announced some details of what the route that the pilots will have to face will be: “This year the YPF INFINIA Route 40 Challenge has a new format, starting in Córdoba, a province that, although it has received the Cross Country with the Dakar, had not yet been present in any of the editions of the “Route 40”. So it is a turn of the page to what we have been doing in other years.”

“In Córdoba, we will be welcomed by a very fanatical audience of the rally, which has not had the WRC for years, and who will surely be on the side of the road. The passion for motor sports is a strong point of this province, which also has very beautiful places such as rally stages with mountains and super good roads,” said the designer of the race’s Road Book.

“In Córdoba there are very particular paths, with constant changes of pace. We have very fast areas, typical of WRC rally, and other areas with narrow tracks where the traffic is not super agile. That makes the stages mixed and requires constant concentration,” he added.

Finally, Eli detailed: “San Juan is a 100% Dakarian land. Every Dakar Rally that has passed through there has left its mark. It is a place where we will meet again with off road. At the same time, La Rioja is a land that has already shown that it is super competent for this type of racing. I think it is a balanced, balanced rally, where we are going to have everything.”
