A retiree and her daughter died this Friday in a fierce fire that broke out in the afternoon in their home in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Villa del Parque. The victims were 87 and 63 years old.

The tragic event occurred around 4 p.m. in a building located on 2300 Llavallol Street, a few meters from the corner with Santo Tomé, and the causes that triggered the flames are being investigated.

According to what was reported by police sources, the fire originated inside a room of an apartment located on the ground floor of the building, which has five floors. Authorities confirmed that the older woman was Chana Fejga Willinski, while her daughter was identified as Miriam Cecilia Shmulklerman.

Local residents called 911 after noticing the accident and in a matter of minutes, crews from the City Fire Department and members of the Neighborhood Police Station 11A of the Buenos Aires Police arrived.

The firefighters worked quickly to control – with a 38mm line – the fire, which developed in a bedroom measuring 4 by 4 by 2.50 meters high, according to sources.

It was then that they discovered the charred bodies of the victims, whose deaths were confirmed by personnel from the Emergency Medical Care System (SAME).

An operation was mounted in the area that forced traffic to be interrupted. Towards the evening, experts were still working at the scene to determine how the fire started. In that sense, One hypothesis points to a quartz stove falling to the floor.
