During this day, the society Grupo Optimistic SpA, an entity that became known in Chile for scanning the iris in exchange for money, acknowledged that he committed an illegal act by signing this agreement with a minor teenager, after her father filed an appeal against the organization.

Although the Court of Appeals of Santiago denied the protection appeal presented by the father, from Grupo Optimistic SpA assured that The minor’s information was removed from the databases.

The company Grupo Optimistic SpA became a trend in the summer by giving an amount of money to anyone who allowed their iris to be scanned, in order to create an ID that is part of an international database.

The biometric information linked to the iris that the company collects is sensitive in nature and the individuals who agreed to the agreement do not know what type of specific data remains in the hands of the company, nor are they able to discern what information to provide, so valid consent cannot exist.

This practice was criticized by several cybersecurity experts.which warned of negative consequences for people who provided their personal information, as they could be victims of identity theft or improper use of data.
