Five microscopes that are used for the training of undergraduate students at UST Viña del Mar were donated by the Department of Basic Sciences to the Juan Rusque Portal High School in Nogales.

In addition to the microscopes, the teachers of the educational establishment received basic material to work with this equipment, which will allow them to improve teaching strategies for students from sixth grade to middle school.

This donation was achieved after high school students completed an internship at the Santo Tomás Viña del Mar University to learn about basic sciences. This contact allowed the necessary arrangements to be made to deliver these microscopes.

“For a vulnerable school it is super difficult to have more materials, so we appreciate the donation. We have some materials, but these would be the first microscopes that we are going to have, the most powerful quality and quantity with which we could work,” explained Patricio Vásquez, professor of Chemistry and Natural Sciences at the Liceo Juan Rusque Portal.

The teachers of the Department of Basic Sciences of the UST Viña del Mar highlighted the enthusiasm of the students of the Nogales high school. Carmen Troncoso, an expert in neuroeducation and teacher, assured that this type of equipment is ideal for promoting the scientific interest of boys and girls.

“They are very enthusiastic, they run campaigns to buy material. They participate in projects, they have an annual science fair where other schools go. In addition to the microscopes, we give them slides, coverslips, some droppers, liquid to clean the microscope lenses and there is also paper to clean the lenses, because they are not toy equipment, they are real equipment, so they take five good equipment.” .

In addition to internships, UST Viña del Mar, through its Department of Basic Sciences, provides training to professionals in neuroeducation, in order to improve their teaching techniques and deliver quality knowledge to students in the region.
