FlixBus: We want to promote a paradigm shift in intercity transportation in Chile

With a strategy focused on technology and environmental responsibility, the intercity travel company, FlixBus, is transforming the collective transportation landscape in Chile.

Since its arrival in the country, FlixBus has constantly worked to offer travelers a cheaper and more environmentally friendly transportation alternative. With a fleet that has grown significantly in recent months, the company plans to expand further this 2024.

«We are committed to driving a paradigm shift in the way people travel in Chile. Our strategy focuses on using vehicles that comply with the strictest environmental standards and motivating passengers to opt for public transportation,” explained Santiago Echeverría, general manager of FlixBus Chile.

Globally, the company managed to avoid 818,000 tons of CO2 in 2022 thanks to collective travel with its services. In Chile, the company is focused on optimizing fuel consumption and reducing CO2 emissions from its traditional bus fleet, as well as evaluating the performance of alternative propulsion systems.

“What moves us is to democratize people’s access to quality transportation at affordable prices and, for that, we join forces with those who know the most about transporting passengers in a sustainable way and with high safety standards in the industry” said the executive.

Cutting-edge innovation

In addition to its efforts in sustainability, FlixBus stands out for its focus on technological innovation. With services such as reservations and ticketing through its mobile application, free on-board Wi-Fi and real-time GPS tracking, the company offers a more comfortable and convenient travel experience for its customers.

«FlixBus is revolutionizing the transportation industry with our innovative solutions. Our goal is to provide users with a safe, comfortable and efficient travel experience, while reducing our impact on the environment,” Echeverría added.

Safety on board is one of the biggest concerns for the company, which is why they implement high-standard technology innovation to guarantee users a safer travel experience.

“We have a Network Planning team, a Traffic Control Center and a Center specialized in Crisis, three aspects that are highly valued by our local partners, since they allow us to efficiently plan our routes, monitor all traffic in real time. the operation in the country and react preventively to disruptions that may occur during trips, thereby ensuring a reliable and safe service for people,” details the company’s general manager.

Driving assistance technology, high-standard speed control, devices for detecting and alerting drowsiness and dangerous behavior in the cabin, cameras for recognizing elements on the road with direct alarm to the driver, GPS for satellite tracking of vehicles and security cameras with continuous recording, are part of the security implementations that the fleet has.

electric corridor

Recently, FlixBus launched the first electric corridor in Chile, connecting Los Andes with Santiago using a fleet of 100% electric buses. This project, in collaboration with Metro de Santiago, aims to provide more sustainable and efficient mobility solutions for the community.

The Los Libertadores electric corridor, as the project is called, began with three buses in a pilot stage, with expansion plans depending on demand. In addition, Los Libertadores station will also become an intermodal station for trips to Coquimbo, offering users more options and reducing congestion at other terminals.
