A young man identified as Raúl Consuegra drowned on Sunday at “La Estrella” beach in Santiago de Cuba, journalist Yosmany Mayeta reported on his social networks.

Another Cuban present on the beach, Nelson Luis Rojas, gave him first aid along with his wife and both took him to the Joaquín Castillo Duany Military Hospital.

“When I put him in the car, in the front seat, he still had vital signs,” Rojas said. However, shortly after admission, he died.

“When they took him for observation, he was foaming at the mouth, and I asked the doctor on duty if he was alive and he didn’t answer me,” the source added.

A few hours later, the couple who helped the young man learned of his death.

The young man lived in the Flores neighborhood of the eastern city.

This is not the first time that cases of drowning have been reported in Santiago de Cuba.

In June 2023, the story of a 12-year-old boy identified as Arley Ernesto Porama Pastrana who drowned in the Cauto River emerged, Mayeta also reported.

According to a source consulted by the reporter, the minor went to the river with two friends and it was one of them who pulled out Arley’s lifeless body.
