The chancellor Luis Gilberto Murillo
and the US Under Secretary of State for Management and Resources, Richard Verma will preside over the XI High Level Dialogue (DAN) that will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday in Bogotá and in which they will address issues of the bilateral relationship such as rural transformation, peace and the fight against narcotics.

The delegations will discuss topics of mutual interest in the eight working groups that make up this mechanism: rural transformation; public diplomacy; environment and climate change; energy, mining and infrastructure; peace, democracy and human rights; security, anti-narcotics and rural development; migration; health and information and communications technologies, the Colombian Foreign Ministry reported this Monday.

There will also be two parallel dialogues with civil society and the private sector of both countries “with the objective of promoting the exchange of concrete proposals and the participation of fundamental actors in the bilateral relationship.”

The dialogue with civil society will address the issue of climate change and its impact on environmental justice and ethnic-racial justice, taking into account the designation of Colombia as host country of the COP16 on Biodiversity, which will be held in October and November of this year in Cali.

Meanwhile, In the dialogue with the private sector, popular economy and rural transformation will be discussed, energy transition and technological transformation, specified the Colombian Government.

This bilateral mechanism was established in 2010 and, since then, it is the most relevant instance to “address issues of mutual interest, agree on work areas and specific bilateral technical cooperation programs,” the Foreign Ministry said.

For Colombia, the DAN is “an example of the ties of friendship and cooperation that unite Colombia and the United States,” the information added.
