Neighbors of Saint John of Guadalupe almost a year ago, on their own initiative, they began reforestation in the former green area of the Center of Culture and Artsin the Minor Basilica of Guadalupe and the garden of that neighborhood, and until now they continue to take care of it.

Organized by one of the most active neighbors in the neighborhood, Teresa Menchaca, the idea was born to initially reforest the dirt road that became the CEART green area. The project was named “Hands to the Earth”.

One day in July 2023, they began reforestation without the attention of any director of that agency; It was until today, almost a year later, that they gained attention and this week they will hold a meetingin which they will take the opportunity to demand the expansion of the parking lot that led to the reduction of the green area.

The intention of the residents of the San Juan de Guadalupe neighborhood is no more that CEART gets involved in the care of the planted trees; However, it is worth mentioning that frequently the neighbors themselves have come to water them, using their own resources.

Within the framework of these actions, organized neighbors also took the opportunity to reforest a green area located in front of the still known as the Sanctuary of Guadalupe, and the main garden of the neighborhood.

Regarding the latter, the neighbors pointed out that Despite the care and constant watering of the plantations, they have detected the deliberate destruction or disappearance of the trees.

The reforestation initiative has been joined by several neighbors who have received advice from experts to plant suitable species, and which they have obtained for free in the Municipal Nursery.
