Authorities of the Salta Bar Association yesterday expressed their categorical disagreement with the attempt to exclude lawyer legislators from the prohibition established by Law 7204.

The controversial project, which was presented by a dozen deputies, finally did not go up to the floor and was retained in committee.

Law 7204 determines the incompatibility of legislators and legal officials to sponsor, in the exercise of their profession, third parties who intend to assert rights of any kind before public powers of the Province.

Authorities of the Bar Association, together with the head, Sergio Díaz Lenes, participated in the meeting of the Deputies’ Justice Commission that analyzed the controversial proposal for legislators to litigate and practice the profession.

From the entity they expressed disagreement and said that “it would pose a conflict of interest, due to the influence and interference that deputies or senators could have in the Judiciary due to their positions.”

They considered that for reasons of criteria and opportunity, the initiative should have greater analysis and debate and indicated that the project process will be monitored.

For his part, deputy Juan Esteban Romero spoke out against it and observed that there will be a manifest incompatibility if a legislator who is a lawyer starts litigating. “Above all, of those who make up the Council of the Judiciary and the Jury of Prosecution and of senators of the commission that provides agreements for judges. A conflict of interest could arise,” he said.
